Licensed Psychotherapist/Art Therapist

As a Licensed Psychotherapist with a

specialty in Art Therapy, I receive great

satisfaction helping children, adolescents, and

adults improve mood and relationships so that

they can experience more joy in their lives.

I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, and other evidence based treatment to address issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment to life stressors (divorce, medical, school), ADHD, behavioral and relational problems.

With adults, I mostly use talk therapy alone whereas with children and adolescents, I frequently incorporate art making as it offers a hands-on way to communicate thoughts and feelings they might otherwise be reluctant or unable to verbalize. For example, I might ask a 13 year old girl to draw her mood as a weather condition rather than asking her how she feels, to which the initial response might be,"Ok." Then we can look at the art together and explore what's really coming up for her. For younger children, drawing a picture of their family members as superheroes with different powers can be a creative way to explore their relationships at home. Research indicates that children who make art talk twice as much as children who only talk in session. Art-making can be soothing, revealing, and fun!

I am a Nationally Board Certified (BC), Registered Art Therapist (ATR) and New York State Licensed Art Therapist (LCAT) with extensive experience supervising mental health practitioners and graduate-level interns, and providing clinical treatment to children, adolescents, and adults in inpatient and outpatient settings. My experience includes research at The Depression Evaluation Services, NY Presbyterian Hospital (named New York’s #1 Hospital in U.S. News & World Report’s ‘Best Hospitals’ for the 17th Year in a Row), and inpatient clinical services at Montefiore Medical Center (a teaching hospital of Albert Einstein College of Medicine).  I work with many  adolescents and children in private and public schools, including, but not limited to Avenues, Buckley, Calhoun, Nightingale, P.S. 6, P.S. 77 Lower Lab School, P.S. 158 Bayard Taylor School, P.S. 267 East Side Elementary School, and Lycée Français.

I would be happy to speak with you. Please feel free to call for a FREE 5-10 MINUTE PHONE CONSULTATION.
